First stop Bogotá
For the next month I’ll be storytelling in Colombia and Ecuador as part of a Storytelling Tour with Dream On Productions. Their team bring storytellers from around the globe together with teachers and students in schools and colleges, bringing the power of storytelling, the magic of imagination and a vast cultural exchange together.
Storytelling in Colombia and Ecuador
I’ve arrived a few days early with my family to explore parts of Colombia, get used to the high altitude and take a break before I begin my 3 week tour in the capital city of Colombia, Bogotá and the capital city of Ecuador, Quito. There I will be visiting 10 different schools – some more than once, delivering storytelling workshops with Teachers and performing storytelling with children from pre-school age right up to 18 year olds.
It was a 9 ½ hr flight from London Heathrow to El Dorado International Aiport. We arrived in the early hours at 3.00am local time. My tour manager Agustín from Dream On, was patiently waiting to collect us and take us to our apartment for the next few days. I can honestly say that I don’t remember the last time that I slept for so long and so deeply!
The photo above is during a visit to Monserrate mountain. It rises 10, 341 ft above sea level where you can see dramatic views across Bogotá. At the top of the mountain sits a white church built in the 17th Century. As it was a Sunday morning, there was a service taking place and the church was packed. I’d like to say that we climbed the 1500 steps to reach the top but we took the ‘funicular’ sky tram instead!
Tomorrow we’re heading to the Museum del Oro. Bogotá‘s famous museum of Gold. I’ll keep you posted on my sights and the tour!
